Equities pare gains; Sensex closes 100 points down

Profit booking towards end of session saw benchmarks end flat-to-negative on Monday. IT stocks along with defensive sectors like FMCG and pharmaceuticals ended in red.

Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex closed at 13,365.90, down 103.95 points or 0.77 per cent. It touched a high of 13,559.36 and low of 13,269.62.

National Stock Exchange’s Nifty ended flat at 4,051.40, up 2.40 points or 0.06 per cent. It touched a high of 4,118.10 and low of 4,004.25.

BSE Midcap Index ended 0.53 per cent lower at 5,336.70 and BSE Smallcap Index closed 1.04 per cent lower at 6,643.94.

Ranbaxy Laboratories (-10.71%), Satyam Computer (-7.73%), Infosys Technologies (7.35%), Tata Consultancy Services (3.78%) and ITC (3.67%) were the Sensex losers.

Gainers comprised State Bank of India (4.15%), NTPC (3.77%), Mahindra & Mahindra (3.62%), Tata Steel (3.43%) and ONGC (3.27%).

Market breadth remained negative through the day. On BSE, 1577 shares declined and 1008 advances.
